The Passion Play 1 Sheet

Issue: / Year: 1929

Condition: VG-

WE ARE DELIGHTED TO OFFER THIS ORIGINAL MOVIE POSTER, WHICH WAS INTENDED FOR DISTRIBUTION EXCLUSIVELY TO THEATERS - MAKING IT EXTREMELY RARE TODAY. This is not a poster that could be purchased at regular retail outlets. The spectacular image is superb, making this a great item to display or collect. Take a moment to enjoy the fact that the central image of the poster is a series of pictures arranged in the shape of a cross - it is brilliant graphic and religious symbolism. HISTORIC THEMES AND CREATORS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS POSTER, including JESUS, MARY, JOSEPH, THE LAST SUPPER, THE CRUCIFIXION and much more. This poster is undated. We estimate a 1929 date due to the notice about "Synchronized with Singing Music Sound." Since the first such sound film came out about 1928, and sound was standard by 1931, we feel this historic movie was almost certainly made in the 1928-1934 era and estimate a 1929 date. Imagine owning a piece of cinematic and religious history - that is what this is. CONDITION is very attractive. This large poster, known in the trade as a "one sheet," measures about 27" x 41". It was folded by the movie distributor when it was new (for ease of distribution). There are a few splits along the seams, a very small piece or two are gone (barely noticeable), and a few inches of old tape has fallen off the back and left minor stains. We want to detail the condition (please see pic of top half of poster to view seam split through the second "S" in "PASSION," and to see the tiny piece out under "Picture" on right middle). We should also add that this poster still looks very nice. It could be appropriately matted and framed (just as it is) and look great. We grade it VERY GOOD-. It is the only example we can remember every having seen, and would look superb on display. In fact, we cannot find any other example of this poster noted in the top movie collector websites. This could be the only example in existence (although we have no way of knowing that for sure). We estimate that it is about 80 years old. PHOTOS: We are providing large photos so everyone can get an idea of just how nice this poster is. Please note that our consignor's photos are a bit fuzzy and dark. The actual item is sharply printed with square corners. This poster would make a spectacular addition to almost any collection of religious and historic movie posters.
