WHAT I PRAYED FOR
The congregants at three houses of worship in Atlanta--a temple, a mosque, and a church--share their hopes and dreams, offering a rare glimpse into the American soul. By Steven Russell. Photographs by Alessandra Patin.
PICTURE OF
THE WEEK: This month-old veiled chameleon, perched on a Sydney, Australia, zookeeper's finger, can look forward to a nice, long life of up to eight years, feasting on insects caught with a tongue that can extend to over one and a half times the lizard's body length. (It's quite a tongue in more ways than one--it shoots out at about 13 miles an hour, and its tip acts like a suction cup to trap prey.) As it grows, a veiled chameleon may develop beautiful yellow, turquoise, and brown markings, making it one of the most popular species in the chameleon pet trade. PHOTOGRAPH BY IAN WALDIE.
DEPARTMENTS:
Your Weekend: Jenny McCarthy gets a giggle out of motherhood; Pirates of the
Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest hits the DVD aisle.
Plus: Which cold medicine will get you through the night?.
Wild Animals: The foxes and bison and elk of Yellowstone National Park are about to get their twenty-ninth annual visit from... not Santa but photographer Tom Murphy.
Picture Puzzle: Study these sundries to see what's different.
