which took place on September 27 & 28 1958, with major sponsor Jaguar.
Printed on heavy unbleached newsprint, this 5.5 x 8 program booket belonged to car #22 driver William P Semon Jr.
What's up with the "22" written on the front cover?
For a while after receiving this program I pondered why there was a red inked number 22 hand written on the front cover and curious who wrote it. Every other copy of this program I'd ever seen was void of any handwritten number or other writing. This led me to believe that perhaps Mr. Semon wrote it on the cover at some later date, or someone else wrote it at a reminder of some sort - but I was really nont sure.
Well, one day I finally happened upon an anwser! I came across a copy of this program with a number 36 written on the cover, in the same location, in the same red ink, same handwriting as my 22 program. I quickly grabbed my copy to compare and see if there had been a number 36 car driving that day. To me, this could only mean one thing - that the race coordinators set aside a batch of race programs for the drivers, writing each driver's car number on the front cover to be sure there were enough reserved to gift each as commemorative race program.
