This Immaculate Heart is one of the most beautiful we've seen. It is rich and nuanced, beautifully detailed, and we just love the colors. Mary has such a delicate expression in it. It was printed in the late 19th Century by G. Benziger of Switzerland, who was maybe the only publisher outside of France who could rival the quality of French holy card work. It was done for his distribution of religious goods at the Einsiedeln, Switzerland, shrine, one of the great European pilgrimages to Our Lady. Einsiedeln, still popular today, but it was especially large in the 19th Century before Lourdes, Fatima, and even Lisieux.

The devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary has a long history. According to EWTN, it became popular in the 17th Century through the work of St. John Eudes, a French priest who had a great love of the Blessed Mother. By the 19th Century, the devotion was widespread throughout the Church.

The German at the bottom of the print is a a line from "Brockes Passion" by Handel. It's about the Passion of Christ.
