CHIMNEY SWEEP BOY - VICTORIAN WATERCOLOR
This sad little picture shows the lot of a chimney sweep boy who would spend his often short life in the chimney tunnels where he was lowered. Many lost their lives inside these tunnels and some as young as four years of age were often sold into slavery by their parents. The practice was banned in 1874.
This rare watercolor shows a sweep boy with tolls. It is sepia toned and measures 7" x 5". It is in good condition, a little faded and very much a collectors item.
