A group of friends sets off for a relaxing weekend away on the canals of the glorious British countryside by renting a 'barge'. These houseboats resemble a minature barge in that they are long and narrow and are basically driven with a small trolling motor. They literally bump into some trashy people that live on these things kind of like the gypsies with their RVs in that other British movie, 'Snatch'.

They get into an altercation with these people later on at a bar stop along the canal. After these events, the mutant fish-men finally show up to wreak havoc on all. Kind of a slow burning set-up to their arrival but, it picks up steam once they do.
