Handbag Categories Consolidated

Sellers of handbags may have noticed that we did a bit of a long-awaited cleanup today of our handbag category layout.  Prior to implementing item traits, we had created a bunch of subcategories of the main "Handbags" category for various handbag brands.  After implementing item traits, these categories became a strange redundancy, where we had both a "Brand" trait that had "Coach" in the main "Handbag" category, as well as a category "Coach" that had it's own traits.  Bleck.

Making things worse, many of the traits (like bag style) in the superfluous subcategories were broken, so items in those subcategories could not be correctly filtered.

So, this morning we wrote a script that converted all bags that had been categorized in the brand-specific categories to be recategorized into the main "Handbags" category, with a brand attribute corresponding to the category they had been previously placed in.  We attempted to keep all of the traits that had been setup in the brand subcategories while moving the bag to the main "Handbag" category, but there may be a trait missing here or there.

With the updated item search that finds applicable traits even when a buyer has not filtered on the specific category, we believe that this is going to make for a much smoother shopping experience for our bag shoppers.  Be sure to drop us a line at support if you notice anything peculiar that may have happened with your handbag inventory as a result of this transition.
